This was a challenging and fun project. Again, I seem to have a love-hate relationship with Defenders. While the look is wonderful, the execution, in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired. On this project, we have the treat of building for a repeat client who really let us go nuts on this truck. We basically saved the shell and frame rails of this truck, then redesigned everyhtning else. 440 HP Emissions certified GM 6.3 Erod fuel injected V8, 4L85E automatic, revised factory transfer case, new upgraded Land Rover axles with improved internals and Alcon four wheel disc brakes. Hydroboost power assist brakes, custom wiring harness, climate control, gauges and more.
We laser scanned the original plastic grill, then did a light redesign. Machined in aluminum, silica blast and anodized. Same with the ICON letters at top center.
Here we replaced the factory plastic grill with our own design, CNC'ed then powder coated aluminum, with a unique woven stainless insert. This vent is also highly functional, serving as the cold air intake for the enclosed air filter housing. Yes, it has a drain!
These, I admit, are superfluous. However, we thought they were a good opportunity to add some brand continuity with the more modern LR platforms. Machined in aluminum, silica blasted then anodized. Woven stainless steel mesh insert.
Military inspired gauges, all modern electronic units. LED indicator lights for various functions. Fit into a custom steel panel. Note tilt column, which also features a collapsible shaft for added safety.
The second row sports two bucket seats, with room in the center to pass through (should the dog cage be removed). Seats and door panels covered in American Bison hide. Door hardware all machined aluminum.
German black Haargarten woven loop carpet is hemmed in Bison, rubber backed and removable. Floor and underside body surfaces were all coated in Polyurea. Inside of doors, transmission tunnel, quarters and roof were also covered in Dynamat before final assembly for great sound deadening value.
