This is an interesting build. What looks like a 1990 FJ62 Land Cruiser is actually a later model, 1997 FZJ80 Land Cruiser, with an FJ62 body modified to fit. The idea was to create a traditional looking Cruiser, that had all of the engineering benefits of the later series, but all of the styling benefits of the older, more traditional model. We then upgraded all of the trim, interior, power train, electronics, conveniences, suspension and more. Last step, we outfit it for surf trips. Such a fun truck.
With the FZJ80 chassis, you get tons of improvements, including a more ridig frame, coil suspension, four wheel disc brakes with ABS, tighter steering, full floating rear axle, locking front and rear differentials, and more.
The snorkel allows for deep water crossings with no problem. The axles, transfer case and transmission were also plumbed with remote vents, fit up high.
Power BMW front seats were restyled and uphostered in German vinyl and Chilewich weave. Carbon Fiber seat heaters added as well. Tuffy Locking center console.
Here you see the body after media blast, bodywork, primer and paint, on our fixture. Next step will be into the oven for the polyurea coating on the underside and interior floor surfaces.
