This is a 1962 FJ40. We found this truck in the high desert, missing it's drivetrain, but with a very nice body. So we decided to restore it in the stock style, infused with the ICON FJ engineering details. We all loved building this one. Goal was to integrate all of the engineering prowess developed for the ICON FJ, but to finish it much closer to stock. An “Old School” styled build, if you will. So while we took many liberties with the design details, all was done with a more retro feel than the ICON FJ approach. All finished to concours quality standards. Now the client has the best of both worlds, classic styling, and modern performance. Timeless utility too!

We started with such a fine example. That makes a big difference in the end result. Too many times, we see people start up with basket cases, and end up with shiny basket cases....

The top and soft doors are very rare. We were able to scroung up all the parts needed to restore these as new. Not sure if we could ever again.

When we restored the top, we used higher quality Mercedes canvas, Bentley Tenax snaps, 3M acrylic windows, and Nike hardware.

You can remove the whole top, or quickly roll-and-scroll up the side and rear panels.

This white bezel around the headlights with Land Cruiser stamped into it is stupid rare. They only ran them for a few years.

These original first series Land Cruiser emblems are great!

We painstakingly restored every little detail, even the original license plates!

The big ceramic coated exhaust pipe is the only hint that this is not stock.....

The horse and buggy era leaf spring suspension is long gone, now running Fox Racing coil-over system. Way better!

Love the old steering wheel, it is huge! While the dash appears stock, it is actually modified and a far simpler design than original.

The earliest FJ gauges had a silver background. So we decided, in keeping with that, we would restore and modify the stock gauge cluster to run all modern units inside, and to look stock on the outside, except we matched to colors to our custom body color.

OEM Toyota lap belts. Often we try to upgrade to three-point belts, but with no roll bar in the design, there is no structural place to properly mount the sholder strap.

Stock front and rear seats were stripped, powder coated, then new foam and unique Oxblood vinyl. Correct upholstery for this year is Pumpkin Orange, but it did not look right next to this body color.

We managed to clean up and save the orignal horn button.

This is a cool feature on the earliest Cruisers. A vent in the windshield frame that cranks out for a good breeze. "Factory A/C"!

This automatic transmission shifter is designed to look like a stock manual shifter. You push the button in the center of the knob to allow user to shift gears. LED display option is possible with this, but client said do not bother, keep it clean and smooth!
